Aluminium Chloride (Product Code: SCL-751/120) is an analytical reagent aluminium salt used to test for the aluminium ion and to demonstrate salt hydrolysis in school and college chemistry laboratories. Teachers putting together a salt analysis kit for school practicals use it as a known aluminium sample, while in college organic chemistry the anhydrous form serves as the Friedel-Crafts catalyst; it comes in a 500 gm pack with an MSDS. It is supplied by Jain Scientific Equipments Pvt Ltd (ScienceLab), Ambala, India.

In cation analysis, a dilute solution of the salt gives a white, gelatinous precipitate of aluminium hydroxide when ammonium hydroxide is added in the presence of ammonium chloride. Adding sodium hydroxide instead produces the same white precipitate, which then dissolves in excess alkali and shows students the amphoteric nature of aluminium. Running the same tests on an iron(III) salt, which gives a reddish-brown precipitate, helps pupils tell the two group members apart. A drop of the solution on blue litmus also reveals the acidity caused by hydrolysis.
Aluminium chloride draws moisture from the air, and the anhydrous solid reacts vigorously with water, releasing hydrogen chloride fumes. Open the container in a fume cupboard or a well-ventilated area, and add the solid to water slowly rather than water to the solid. Close the lid as soon as the required amount is removed and keep the pack in the chemistry reagent cabinet, away from water and alkalis. Use completely dry apparatus for Friedel-Crafts work.

Who supplies Aluminium Chloride SCL-751/120?
Aluminium Chloride (SCL-751/120) is supplied by Jain Scientific Equipments Pvt Ltd, which trades as ScienceLab from Ambala, Haryana, India. The company sources the reagent for school, college and research laboratories and dispatches it with an MSDS to buyers in India and international markets.
Is this aluminium chloride anhydrous or hydrated?
The listing for Aluminium Chloride gives the analytical reagent grade and the 500 gm pack size but not the form. Because the anhydrous and hydrated salts behave very differently, especially in Friedel-Crafts reactions, confirm the form you need through our contact page before ordering.
What does one pack of Aluminium Chloride contain?
One pack of Aluminium Chloride contains 500 gm of the salt, listed as analytical reagent grade. An MSDS is supplied with it, so the laboratory has hazard, storage and first-aid information on file before the container is opened.
Why do fumes appear when the aluminium chloride container is opened?
Fumes appear because moisture in the air reacts with aluminium chloride and releases hydrogen chloride gas. Open the container in a fume cupboard or well-ventilated area, take out only what the class needs and reseal it quickly to keep the remaining salt dry.
Is aluminium chloride suitable for school salt analysis?
Yes. Aluminium chloride is a convenient known sample for school salt analysis: a small amount dissolved in distilled water gives an aluminium solution on which students can practise the group reagent and confirmatory tests before they meet unknown salts.
What is the shelf life of Aluminium Chloride?
Shelf life depends on the chemical, its grade and storage conditions; ask us for the expiry date of the batch you are quoted. Keeping the Aluminium Chloride container tightly closed and dry helps the salt stay free-flowing between practicals.
What should an aluminium chloride quotation request include?
A quotation request for Aluminium Chloride should give the number of 500 gm packs, the form required, your delivery location and whether each laboratory needs its own MSDS copy. For export orders, also state the destination country so that shipping options can be checked.
