Bed Switch
The Bed Switch (Product Code: SCL-645/071) is a common-type single-module switch rated 6A at 240V, with a white ABS body in a glossy finish. Bed switches are traditionally used to switch a lamp on and off from within easy reach; in the laboratory this one gives the teacher a simple, insulated on/off control for lamp and conductivity demonstration circuits. It is supplied by Jain Scientific Equipments Pvt Ltd (ScienceLab), Ambala, alongside the holders, bulbs and wire used to build these set-ups.
Specifications
| Parameter | Detail |
|---|---|
| Type | Common type |
| Current rating | 6A |
| Voltage | 240V |
| Number of modules | 1M |
| Body material | ABS |
| Colour and finish | White, glossy |
Typical Use
The switch is placed in series with the bulb holder in the ionic conductivity demonstration so the circuit is only energised once the electrodes are in position, and it is switched off again before the electrodes are moved to the next solution. It also serves as the control switch on demonstration lamp boards and in the simple wiring exercises that accompany an electricity experiment kit in school, where students see how a switch breaks and completes a circuit.
Keep the load within the 6A, 240V rating, make all connections with the supply disconnected, tighten the terminal screws onto clean conductor ends, and keep the switch away from wet areas of the bench. The ABS body is an insulating plastic, but it should still be wiped dry if it is splashed.
Supplier
The switch is supplied by Jain Scientific Equipments Private Limited, whose brand is ScienceLab, based in Ambala, Haryana, India. Read about the company on its profile page.

Parts that complete a switched lamp circuit:
- Bulb Holder Hanging Type — holds the indicator lamp the switch controls
- Electric Bulb — the lamp in the circuit
- Insulated Electric Wire (Copper) — for wiring the switch into the circuit
- One Way Key — the plug key usually used in low-voltage DC physics circuits
- Electric Switch — another switch option in our range
Other electrical and chemistry items are in the Chemistry Lab category.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the electrical ratings?
The switch is rated 6A at 240V. Do not use it on loads above that rating.
What does 1M mean?
It refers to the number of modules — this is a single-module switch.
What is the body made of?
White ABS plastic with a glossy finish, which is easy to wipe clean.
Can it be used in battery circuits?
A mechanical switch also works at low voltage. For DC physics practicals, many teachers prefer a plug key such as the One Way Key.
Is connecting wire supplied with the switch?
No wire is listed with this item; copper wire can be ordered separately by length.
What details should an enquiry include?
State the number of switches, any other circuit components required and the delivery location in India or abroad via our contact page.
