Laser Light Torch (Product Code: SCL-561/030) is a pen-type laser pointer that produces a green laser beam, supplied for Tyndall effect experiments in the chemistry laboratory. When the narrow beam is passed through a colloid, its path lights up as a bright visible line because the dispersed particles scatter light; in a true solution the beam passes through almost unseen. That contrast makes it the quickest way to show students the difference between the two. Teachers add it to the chemistry experiment kit used for the colloids lesson. It is supplied by Jain Scientific Equipments Pvt Ltd (ScienceLab), Ambala, India.

Set up two clear containers side by side: one holding a true solution such as common salt or sugar dissolved in water, the other a colloid such as a starch solution, very dilute milk or a freshly prepared ferric hydroxide sol. Darken the room and shine the laser horizontally through the side of each container in turn, aiming at a matt card or wall behind it. Students watching from the side will see a sharp beam path in the colloid and little or nothing in the solution. Smooth-walled glassware and freshly prepared, dust-free liquids give the clearest result.
Laser safety comes first. Never look into the beam, never point it at anyone’s face or eyes, and keep it away from mirrors and shiny surfaces that could reflect it. The teacher should hold and operate the pointer, switch it off between demonstrations and store it where students cannot pick it up. Kept with the science kit for students that goes to each class, it lets the same short demonstration be repeated wherever colloids are taught.
Jain Scientific Equipments Private Limited, known by its trading name ScienceLab, is based in Ambala, Haryana. It sources and supplies accessories such as this laser torch so that institutions in India and international markets can order everything for an experiment in one place. A complete Tyndall effect demonstration also needs the colloid, the glassware and a spare beam source:
More apparatus and chemicals for practical work are in the Chemistry Lab category.
What colour is the beam?
Green.
Why is a green beam useful for the Tyndall effect?
The human eye is more sensitive to green light than to red, so a green beam scattered by colloid particles is usually easier to see in a classroom.
What are its output power, laser class and battery type?
These are not listed for this item. Please ask through our contact page before ordering, especially if your institution has rules on laser devices.
Can students operate it themselves?
We recommend that a teacher operates it. Anyone using it must never look into the beam or aim it at people.
Does it work in a lit room?
The beam path is easiest to see in a darkened room; in bright light the scattering in the colloid is much harder to observe.
Can you supply it with the chemicals and glassware, including for export?
Yes. Add the items to one enquiry; we supply schools and dealers in India and international markets.
