Mini Science Kit – Earth, Sun and Moon (Product Code: SLE/CH/158) is an astronomy topic kit that helps children understand the movements behind everyday events in the sky. Its activities tackle the relative sizes of bodies in space, whether the Sun really moves, day and night, sunrise and sunset, the seasons and the phases of the Moon. Manufactured by Jain Scientific Equipments Pvt Ltd (ScienceLab), Ambala, India, it is a compact earth science kit for schools that want pupils to model the Earth–Sun–Moon system rather than just read about it.

Activities performed with this kit:
Space topics are hard to observe directly in a single lesson, so this kit relies on modelling. With the room darkened and a lamp standing in for the Sun, pupils turn a model Earth to see how one half is always lit, which explains day and night and why sunrise comes earlier to places further east. Asking “Does the Sun move?” opens a discussion of apparent motion: the Sun seems to cross the sky because the Earth spins. Moving the model Earth around the lamp with its axis tilted shows why the seasons change, and circling a small ball around a pupil’s head in lamplight recreates the phases of the Moon.
Pair the classroom models with real observations – the Moon’s shape over several evenings, or the Sun’s position at the same time each morning. Older pupils can extend the Moon diary into a science fair project. Never let pupils look directly at the Sun during outdoor observations.

Does the kit explain why we have seasons?
Yes. The Seasons is one of the six activities; modelling the tilted Earth moving around the Sun shows why daylight and warmth change through the year.
Do we need a darkened room?
It helps. The day-and-night and Moon-phase models are much clearer when the only strong light comes from the lamp or torch acting as the Sun.
What is actually in the box?
The item-by-item contents are not published here. Please request the packing list through our contact page so you know whether to add a globe or light source.
How does the kit deal with the idea that the Sun moves?
The “Does the Sun move?” activity helps pupils separate what they see from what happens: the Sun appears to rise and set because the Earth rotates.
Is it a good fit for a tender or bulk purchase?
Yes. Send the number of kits per school and delivery addresses and we will prepare one consolidated quotation.
Do you export this kit?
We supply India and international markets; tell us the destination country when you enquire so shipping can be arranged.
