What Is the Play Parachute Used For?
Children stand around the edge, each holding a handle, and move the canopy together on the teacher’s call: lifting it high to form a dome, making fast or slow ripples, or letting a light ball roll and bounce across the surface without it falling off. Calling out a colour, number or name so that children swap places underneath the raised canopy turns the same parachute into a listening and reaction game.
Because every child must move in time with the group, parachute play builds cooperation, turn-taking, rhythm and upper-body strength without anyone being knocked out of the game. Use it on grass or a cleared hall floor, keep shoes and sharp objects off the fabric, and fold it only when dry so it goes back into the bag clean.
