The Portable Baby/Chd/adult L-H (Product Code: SLE/AE/011) is a folding length-height measuring board that covers the whole life course: babies are measured lying down (recumbent length) and children from 24 months, as well as adults, standing upright. With two extensions it reads from 0 to 204 cm in 0.1 cm divisions, so one board can serve a mixed household survey, a mother-and-child clinic or a community screening camp. It is made by Jain Scientific Equipments Pvt Ltd (ScienceLab), Ambala, a lab equipment manufacturer in India that also builds anthropometric tools for field use.

Typical Use
For a baby, the board is laid flat on a table or the floor, with one person holding the infant’s head against the headboard while a second straightens the legs and slides the wedge up to the soles of the feet. For an older child or adult, the same board is stood upright on its large foot piece against a wall, the person stands barefoot with heels, buttocks and head touching the board, and the slide is brought down onto the crown of the head. Lock the slide or rely on its friction before reading, and read at the arrow or pictogram to avoid parallax.
Survey teams appreciate that the same kit handles every household member, and that it folds into a carrying size with a shoulder strap. Schools running health check-ups within their health education programmes can also use it for pupils’ height records alongside a weighing scale.
