What Are Protective Safety Glasses Used For?

Safety spectacles are the everyday eye protection of a teaching lab: students wear them when cutting or bending glass tubing, stretching springs and wires in mechanics practicals, hammering or filing in a workshop, and handling glassware that could break. The wrap-around lens and side protection guard against fragments coming from the side as well as from the front.

Adjust the arms so the spectacles sit snugly without slipping, clean the lens with water and a soft cloth, and store each pair in a drawer or case so the lens is not scratched. Spectacles are not sealed against liquids, so for work with corrosive splashes many schools in India and elsewhere pair them with, or switch to, closed safety goggles.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Number of pairs — usually a class set plus spares for staff and visitors.
  • Whether any wearers need eyewear that fits over prescription glasses (ask us).
  • Whether closed goggles are also needed for chemical splash work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Protective Glass impact resistant?
Yes. The Protective Glass is listed as impact resistant, with a high-wrap lens that gives impact protection and an unobstructed view. It suits lab and workshop tasks where small fragments or particles could fly towards the eyes.

Does it protect from the side?
Yes. The Protective Glass has a side protection design together with a high-wrap lens. This combination helps guard against particles coming from the side as well as from the front during practical work.

Can it be adjusted for different wearers?
The Protective Glass has adjustable arms on a lightweight, unisex frame, so it can be set to sit comfortably on different students and staff. Adjust the arms until the spectacles stay in place when the wearer looks down at the bench.

Is it suitable for chemical splashes?
Not on its own. The Protective Glass is a pair of safety spectacles with side protection, not a sealed goggle. For work with corrosive liquids or a real splash risk, use closed safety goggles or a face shield, following your laboratory’s safety rules.

Who supplies the Protective Glass?
The Protective Glass is supplied by Jain Scientific Equipments Pvt Ltd, trading as ScienceLab, Ambala, India. It is quoted to schools, colleges, workshops, dealers and importers in India and international markets, alone or with other safety items.
