DESCRIPTION :-
• The traditional scientific curiosity comprising a partly exhausted glass bulb, 80mm diameter containing a delicately balanced rotor, having a set of four mica vanes 5mm square.
• One side of each va.ne is matt black, the other white.
• When exposed to sunlight or sufficiently bright incandescent light source.
• The temperature differential set up in each vane due to the surface finishes of its opposite sides causes the net force exerted by air molecule impacts to be slightly greater on the blackened side.
• The result is that the vanes rotate (very rapidly in direct sunlight), their white faces leading.
