Dissolved oxygen is one of the clearest signs of water health: fish and aerobic microbes need it, and organic pollution uses it up. Keep the probe membrane clean, moist and free of trapped air bubbles, and move the probe gently or stir the sample so fresh water keeps reaching the membrane. Note the sample temperature, since oxygen solubility changes with it. Rinse the probe with distilled water after use.
