What Is the Two-Bottle Surgical Suction Pump Used For?
In the operating theatre the pump clears blood and irrigating fluid from the surgical field, and on the ward or in recovery it removes secretions from a patient’s airway during resuscitation. The vacuum control sets the suction level, the gauge shows the negative pressure being applied, and the foot switch lets the operator start and stop suction without taking hands off the patient.
The second jar adds collection volume for procedures that produce more fluid, and the overflow provision stops liquid reaching the pump if a jar fills. After use, the jars and silicone tubing go through the autoclave at 121 °C, a fresh anti-bacterial filter is fitted from the spares, and the smooth casing is wiped down. Lockable anti-static castors let staff move the unit between theatre and ward and park it securely.
