What Is the Vee Bee Consistometer Used For?
Very stiff concrete barely slumps, so the Vee Bee test measures how much vibration it takes to remould it. A slump cone is filled and rodded inside the container on the table, then lifted away; the slump can be read on the graduated rod. The swivel arm lowers the transparent acrylic disc onto the concrete, the table is switched on, and the operator times how long it takes for concrete to cover the whole underside of the disc.
That time in seconds is the Vee Bee value: a longer time means a stiffer, less workable mix. The test suits dry mixes for pavements, precast work and roller-compacted concrete. Stand the table on a level floor, make sure the container is fixed firmly before vibrating, and wipe the disc clean after each test so the contact line stays easy to see.
