What Is the Core Cutter Used For?
A small patch of the layer is levelled, the cutter is stood upright with the dolly on top, and the rammer drives both down until the cutter is completely filled. The dolly protects the cutter's rim and lets it sink just below the surface. The cutter is then dug out, its ends trimmed flush, and the core weighed; a portion is dried to find the moisture content, from which the dry density follows.
