What Is the Jolting Apparatus Used For?
Freshly mixed cement mortar is placed in the three-compartment 40 × 40 × 160 mm mould with the hopper fitted on top, and the jolting apparatus compacts it by repeatedly lifting the table and letting it fall onto the stop. Because the cam speed and jolt count are fixed by the machine, every set of prisms receives the same compaction effort, which removes the operator-to-operator variation of hand tamping. The compacted prisms are then cured and tested for flexural and compressive strength.
